ChatGPT Advantage: 3 Tips Every Marketer Needs
My team was working on an email marketing campaign. The agency supporting us for content creation was not available and we were struggling to meet the deadline. To expedite content creation, we decided to take the help of ChatGPT. However, the quality of results we got for my team members was significantly different. Why? The discrepancy was mainly due to differences in the instructions provided to ChatGPT and the specificity of the prompts given. Has this ever happened to you?
ChatGPT offers several features that can significantly reduce the workload for marketers, allowing them to focus on strategy and creativity. Knowing how to use ChatGPT effectively empowers us, marketers, to streamline processes, personalize experiences, gain insights, drive innovation, enhance engagement, and maintain a competitive advantage in the market. By providing detailed instructions and examples, marketers can guide ChatGPT to produce content that aligns with their brand voice and objectives.
In this article, I’ll share some of the prompts you can use as a marketer to turbocharge your marketing game. I have used popular start-ups’ names (Tink, Stripe, and Rapyd) for a better understanding and added prompts you can use to boost efficiency in your marketing efforts. Replace the names with your organization to get more accurate results.
So, let me walk you through some of the features that every marketer should know:
Content Generation
This one is a no-brainer. ChatGPT can assist marketers in generating content ideas, headlines, and even entire articles. The trick is in what kind of instructions you give to generate content. You can ask for content ideas on a particular topic, give a brief outline or keywords on a topic, and ask ChatGPT to generate high-quality content drafts, saving valuable time and effort.
How? Ask ChatGPT to act like a subject matter expert on the topic.
Example ChatGPT Prompts: Consider yourself as a marketing manager of ‘Tink’.
a. Thought-leadership content:
Write a 1500-word article on the topic, ‘Future of Open Banking’ and include practical tips on protecting data breaches.
b. Email Marketing:
Create an email content of about 200 words to nurture the leads received from the webinar on the topic, ‘Future of Open Banking’ where the panel of experts discussed various technology options to implement for leading banks. The email will share the link to the live recording of the webinar and include a CTA to get in touch with our customer experience representative for a detailed discussion.
c. Social Media Marketing:
Generate five possible titles and descriptions for a LinkedIn post about Tink’s mission and values.
d. Content ideas:
Suggest some interesting and fun headline options for an article on the topic ‘Future of Open banking’ that discusses the emerging uses of AI and risks associated with it in open banking services.
Bonus: You can also get guidance on search engine optimization (SEO) best practices. Ask ChatGPT to create SEO-friendly content or suggest SEO keywords on a topic to rank better. Marketers can use this information to improve their website’s visibility in search engine results and drive organic traffic.
Understanding the Audience
ChatGPT can help you create a buyer’s persona for your business by synthesizing information about your target audience. It can generate detailed profiles based on demographics, psychographics, behaviors, and preferences. Utilizing its vast knowledge base, ChatGPT can also provide valuable insights into how to target a certain set of audience. Marketers can leverage this information to tailor their campaigns more effectively and increase engagement.
How? Share how your business helps customers or just mention what are you selling and ask to create a buyer persona.
Example ChatGPT Prompt: My business ‘Stripe’ is a payment service provider. Create a buyer’s persona.
Result: When you message this prompt, ChatGPT will share a complete persona, with a background, goals and challenges, and needs and preferences of an ideal buyer. It will also include tips on how the solution meets the customer’s needs.
Bonus: You can also ask follow-up questions on ChatGPT like ‘share some tactics to target such people online’ to get ideas on further steps. And, you will get a list of marketing activities to include in your marketing plan.
Market Research and Data Analysis
ChatGPT can assist marketers in market research, identifying trends, analyzing campaign performance data, and making data-driven decisions. Whether it’s interpreting Google Analytics reports or conducting A/B testing, ChatGPT can provide valuable insights to optimize marketing strategies.
How? Give a detailed explanation of what you want, why you want it, and how you want to use the information.
Example ChatGPT prompts: Consider you are a part of the marketing team for the company ‘Rapyd’.
a. Market research:
Act like a market researcher for ‘Rapyd’ and provide insights into how our brand is perceived in the market and suggest strategies for brand improvement.
b. Data analysis:
You are a Channel Marketing Strategist for ‘Rapyd’. Your goal is to enhance the effectiveness of our digital marketing channels. You are involved in evaluating the performance data to pinpoint areas of success and areas that need improvement. Your objective is to adjust our strategies and allocate resources strategically to maximize engagement and expand our reach. Can you assist in outlining a methodical, data-driven approach to assess Rapyd’s existing channel mix? I’m seeking insights to optimize resource allocation and uncover opportunities to refine marketing strategies for enhanced outcomes. Here is the performance data of each channel:
<Share data in a table format>
Result for market research: The response to this prompt can be an insightful revelation. ChatGPT shares perception analysis along with competitive benchmarking, customer experience analysis, insights into reputation management, and much more. It also recommends strategies that can help improve brand image and solidify the position of the business in the market.
Result for data analysis: The result here depends on the kind of data you have shared. You can get a visual analysis of the data if you ask for it. You can also get tactics to improve performance from the existing position.
Caution: Avoid sharing sensitive and confidential data on an open platform like ChatGPT to mitigate risks associated with data privacy and security. To understand them better, read my article ‘ChatGPT vs Marketers: Risks, Rewards, and Responsibilities’.
